“The story is …” A Great Quote From Ursula Le Guin
“The story is not in the plot but in the telling.” – Ursula K. Le Guin
I love this quote—and what better way to begin April 5, which is also UK release day for The Gathering of the Lost (yahoo!) than with a quote that so perfectly exemplifies my own feelings about story.
(Although as Paul Mannering from SpecFicNZ observed on Twitter, given received wisdom, shouldn’t it be “in the showing” — he he, thanks Paul 😉 )
But no, entirely in the joy and love of the storytelling, in my humble opinion.

And speaking of the UK launch, my launch post will go up at 12 noon here, just after the clock ticks over into April 5 in the UK—so watch this space for the celebration.
Also, remember that a comment on any blog post dated April 5 will add a further entry of your name into draw to have a character in Daughter of Blood, The Wall of Night Book Three named after you (yes: you!)— so comment at will! (You know I love to hear from you “anyways.”)
Yay, looking forward to making a trip to the WHSmith English Bookshop here in Paris to grab it ! ^_^
I wonder how my name would look like with a fantasy-ish flavor to it lol !
I am sure that I could manage something — I, after all, am the storymancer!
Yay! Looking forward to reading it.
And happy birthday to my little sister!
Don’t enter me.
Your copy will be on its way to youv ery shortly–you will have to let me know hwo you find ‘your character.’ 🙂
And thank you for giving others their chance with the Name/Character contest this time.
I have to agree with Miss Le Guin’s comment
It has to be said: she is clearly a woman of discernment—but to be fair, I think the whole world pretty much knows that already!
I cannot wait to read the second book. Heir of Night has had me entranced since I opened to the first page. I have to agree that the story is in the telling. It’s like a movie reel in my head. Thank you for allowing me to go away for a little while each day!
Laura, thank you for dropping by and for that very positive feedback. I am so glad you enjoyed “Heir” and am fairly certain, therefore, that you will love “Gathering” too.:)
