1021 Posts Today!
I probably wouldn’t have realized that I’d passed the 1000 mark for posts “…on Anything, Really” except that the Civilian Reader just celebrated passing his 1000th and that madeย me do a bit of frantic finger counting… ๐ (Frantic because I don’t have anywhere near that many fingers, of course!)
So just to do a bit of a reprise, Post the First was on 31 May 2010 and of course it said something like “hello world”: a traditional if uninspiring start! ๐
What I wrote then was:
“In terms of content I’ll be focusing on my writing, so expect to see plenty here about both novels and poetry, what’s coming up and what’s happening, as well as the interviews I do on radioโand I hope there’ll be a few online interviews showing up as well!
But it won’t just be my creative work: I’m looking forward to having conversations around what I’m reading now, the books I’ve loved reading in the past as well as creative influences from other areas …”
There was a bit more, but that’s the gist and by and large I think I’ve kept the content promise. There have been updates on my writing and discussions around writing generally and the writing life; regular Tuesday Poems since June 1, 2010; interviews; book reports; earthquake reports and earthquake poems—a ‘must’ given events in Christchurch, particularly last year; as well as a few posts on other topics. Astronomy, food, and garden photos have featured, plus yes, there have even been a few posts on my cat. (Come on, it’s traditional that “hello world” should be followed at some stage by “here’s a photo of my cat…” ;-))
Sometimes it does feel like a bit of a major keeping it going every day, but somehow or other, I always think of something to post and it all keeps on happening. In fact I’ve only ever missed one day and that was Wednesday 23, 2011, the day immediately after the most major (death and destruction-wise) of the Chriscthurch earthquakes, when we still had no power.
So I don’t think I’ve done too badly so far…
Anyway, 1000 plus being a milestone I would love to hear from you in terms of what you’re enjoying on the blog and what you might like to see more of. Any and all ideas welcome—although of course the books must always come first, so whileย I will consider anything/everything, I will only ever do what I can manage around the books, time-wise.
But here’s to the first 1000—and to you, for coming, for reading, and occasionally for commenting! ๐
Occasionally commenting. ๐
And appreciated! ๐
Hmmm, can you let Malien loose occasionally to give us updates or interview other characters in other author’s books?
An update from Malian and possibly other WALL series characters—now that may be do-able…
Will have to see re the character interviews, it would depend on my finding other authors with characters who were interview friendly. But I shall definitely bear it in mind.:)
Thanks for the ideas, Jan.
First time vistor so first comment on you site.I was interested to read though what your first post was.Yes time does go by and before you realize it another year has gone .Im a cat lover also unfortunatly my old fellow who normally cuddles up on my lap when I read is not going to be with us much more. I have enjoyed visting your site today and will be back for more I think what your blogging about is fine.
Thank you for visiting today, Linda. My cat is long in years too, being on the cusp of his 20th birthday, but so far he is getting by if a little on the arthritic-y side.
Welcome back anytime. ๐
Congratulations! Quite a milestone ๐ And I love what you blog about (even on days when I don’t have time to comment!), your blog is uniquely you ๐
Thank you, Wen!:)
Congratulations on passing the 1000-milestone.
Your blog is just fine the way it is.
I do find the blogs about the earthquake, food, has pictures in it, book-related (yours or other authors) – to be the more interesting from my own perspective.
Please don’t feel oblige to blog every day.
Hi June, thanks for commenting & for following. ๐
Despite another little flurry recently am hoping the earthquake posts, like the aftershocks, will be ever diminishing in frequency and intensity… ๐ But I have taken due note of food, photos, and keeping up the book-related focus. Somehow, I don’t think I shall have any problems with the latter, but may give some thought to upping the foodie posts.
As for posting every day (‘with a spirit of joyful exhilaration’)—I do feel rather committed to it now but if things ever get really dire I shall certainly cut back at need.:)
Awesome! I really enjoy being introduced to other writers here, but also insights into the writing process, those are wonderful, Helen ๐
Thanks, Ashley–am glad you find it rewarding.
