An Evening with Walter Jon Williams
Yesterday, I and fellow SpecFicNZ members enjoyed the opportunity to spend an evening with Walter Jon Williams and his wife Cathy, who are currently holidaying in New Zealand.
It’s always nice to catch up with other writers, especially one as long established as Walter—as well as (fan gal moment!) meeting the author of such longstanding favorites as Hardwired, Crown Jewels and Implied Spaces. And fascinating as well to hear about Taos Toolbox, the masterclass for SF writers he runs jointly with Nancy Kress.
Meetings like this do rather underline Elizabeth Knox’s point in last week’s SF Signal interview about how as an author based in New Zealand one of the big things you miss out on is the opportunity to rub shoulders with fellow authors and others in the industry such as editors and publishers.
Walter and Cathy also had alot of enjoyable stuff to say about their New Zealand holiday—but the best way to find out more about that is via his own words, right here on his own site—there are some great traveller’s accounts and photographs: Here.
So you guys did meet. Nice!
We did indeed—and it was! 🙂
Walter and Cathy also stopped off in Wellington, and meet local Wellington fans at the Avida Wine Bar.
This was much appreciated, and books were signed by Walter.
It was probably a much larger group in Wellington! Nonetheless, I believe one book was signed by Walter: a much loved first edition of Crown Jewels. 🙂
