New Zealand National Flash Fiction Day Is Happening Again—And There’s A Contest!
New Zealand celebrated its inaugural Flash Fiction day last year—with events from Northland to Canterbury and many places in between that included regional writing competitions, a 24-hr write-in, workshops, flash presentations and readings.
The good news is that it’s happening again this year, on June 22nd, 2013.
And once again, there’s going to be a competition—it opened on 1 April, in fact, and runs to May 31.
Judges are still to be announced, but here’s the contest low-down to date, as received from the organisers:
- “submissions open 1 April – 31 May 2013
- competition open to all NZ citizens and residents
- open competition; no theme or prompt
- no entry fee (it’s free–squee!)
- only previously unpublished* work will be considered
- deadline for submissions: 31 May 2013
- word limit: 300 excluding title
- maximum three stories per person
- electronic submissions only
- submissions must be sent as attachments (not in the body of the email) to nationalflash [at] gmail [dot] com
- send in one of the following formats: .doc, .docx, .jpeg, .pdf
- submissions must be received no later than midnight, 31 May 2013
*Published means anything that has already appeared anywhere in print or online, including personal websites or blogs.
Winners will be notified in early June and a prize-giving event with readings will take place at the Auckland Central City Library, 44-46 Lorne Street on 22 June 2013.”
