Celebrating NZ Speculative Fiction For #NZBookMonthMay: Week The Third
I’ve just completed the third (and a bit) weeks of my ‘mission’ to celebrate a NZ Speculative Fiction book every day on Twitter for #NZBookMonthMay — and so far am going strong on not repeating an author.
Here’s the roundup for this week:
Juliet Marillier, Prickle Moon (Short Fiction Anthology; Fantasy)
.
James Norcliffe, The Loblolly Boy (Junior Fiction; Fantasy)
.
Freya Robertson, Heartwood (Epic Fantasy)
.
Kelly Ana Moray, Bloom (Magical Realism)
.
Nalini Singh, Angel’s Blood (Paranormal Urban Romance)
.
David Hair, The Bone Tiki (YA; Fantasy)
.
Philippa Ballantine, Geist (Fantasy)
I’ve read Geist. It’s the first book of a series of 4 books, followed by Spectyr, Wrayth and Harbinger. Each book has its own story with an over-arching storyline that carries on across all 4 books. The 1st book has bits of the big story in it, so might feel “not fully covered” but it can be read as a stand-alone.
I’ve read the whole series and really enjoyed it. I thought it got better with the latter books, and everything does get covered by the 4th book.
Great cover art too, and the covers do reflect the books very well.
Thanks for your amplification of Pip’s work, June. I thought I’d mention the first-in-series in most cases, but it’s always good to be aware when there’s so much more.
