About The Characters: Meet The Minor Players in “The Wall Of Night” Series — Meet Elite Cairon
Last year, I resumed my “About the Characters” post series that focuses on the minor characters in The Wall Of Night series, because :
“I think it’s the presence of the smaller characters that “makes” a story, creating texture around the main points of view.”
~ from my Legend Award Finalist's Interview, 2013
Initially, the series focused exclusively on characters from The Heir of Night, but now I’m continuing on with minor characters from both The Gathering Of The Lost and Daughter of Blood simultaneously — in alphabetical order, of course!
(The quotes, together with the covers, indicate whether the character appears in both or only one of the books—in this case, Elite Cairon is one of those “off-screen” or “non player” characters who are nonetheless important to the story.)

Elite Cairon: a leader of Ar’s Shadow Band
Malian had been dreaming deeply, reliving the rain-spattered evening five years before when she and Linden, the Spring singer of the Winter people, had walked into the River’s northernmost trading post on the Wildenrush and found Cairon of Ar sitting by the autumn fire. Even now, she wondered by what diverse means a message had gone out from the Winter Country and brought an Elite of the Shadow Band so far into the wilderness.

Life is a risk, Malian thought, despite the hollowness at her core. And Asantir had always said she needed to know as much about her allies as her enemies, a philosophy that had tallied with Elite Cairon’s Shadow Band tutelage. She stamped her feet, silent on the pine needles, and drew the blanket closer. “I’m listening,” she said.
