A Geography Of Haarth: Westwind Hold (Updated)
The A Geography of Haarth post series is traversing the full range of locales and places from The Wall of Night world of Haarth. Each locale is accompanied by a quote from the relevant books where the place occurs.
From January 25, 2013 to November 25, 2014, the series explored locations encountered in The Heir Of Night and The Gathering Of The Lost. Now the series has resumed to ensure the geography of Daughter Of Blood (The Wall Of Night Book Three) is included in our “grand tour”, epic fantasy style. 🙂
The new series comprises updates of previous entries as well as the new listings. We’re now in the realm of “W”…

“The river Telimbras,” said Kyr. “It marks the boundary between the Gray Lands and Jaransor. In Westwind Hold,” he added, his expression impassive, “we call it the River of No Return.”

Haimyr studied his wine with great interest. “The winter was severe and they had no provisions, even if they could have found shelter. But there are no habitations in Jaransor. The Westwind scouts thought it possible their bodies might never be found, not in that country.”

“No.” Garan was rueful. “As reward for our exemplary nursemaiding of a flock of Morning priests from the Border Mark to the Keep of Bells, then back to Morning, we are now to search the vastness of the Gray Lands for a stray from Westwind Hold. The woman’s mazed, but still managed to slip her watchers and Night territory.” His ruefulness became pity. “If we find her at all in that country, most likely she’ll be dead. Nonetheless, we have our orders.”

It would be awesome to have a more detailed Map of The Wall and of Haarth…
It would help navigate the story more… For example where exactly is the Keep of winds?
Please… Thank you..
Hi Marama, I did post the largest version of the map that the blog would allow, without distortion, in April last year. You can check it out, here: http://helenlowe.info/blog/2018/04/28/the-wall-of-night-series-map/
In terms of more maps, the agreement with my publisher was that ‘there would be only one’ for the series. However, when WALL#4 is done I may see what can be done with a more detailed WALL map for readers, although going ahead will depend on a lot of factors including time and the artist’s availability. In the meantime, I hope the larger version is some help.
