The Month Of “Daughter Of Blood” — Something Readers Might Not Know
To support Daughter of Blood being a Kindle Monthly Deal in the US/Canada from 1 November – 2 December (2019, of course! ๐ ) I’ve dedicated my blog November to the book. (Pauses for wild applause and ear-splitting hurrahs.)
And this is the very last week — which is why I’m featuring Something You Might Not Know about Daughter of Blood.
Here it is: Did you know that Daughter of Blood wasn’t the original title of the book? Yeah? Nah? Or taking the Kiwi option: YeahNah…
The answer is in fact, yes, it wasn’t the original title.
My working title for the book was The Riven Shield — which is pretty cool, imho. #JustSayin’
Although that immediately begs the question: why not carry the title through to the published work? The decision was entirely mine and not my publishers — but otherwise I’d love to hearย what you think might be reasons. (Hint: there were reasons plural, not just the one.)
Any guesses, anyone? (AKA We could have some fun with this! ๐ )

Last Q&A Thursday, As Well!
This Thursday will be the last dedicated Daughter of Blood Q&A as well, so if you haven’t asked your question yet, just email to my webmail:
Iโll be on it from there! (And it’s Thanksgiving Thursday, too. Even better. ๐ )
Well, my guess would be because Myr is such a strong character, without being a warrior or a power user. She is strong in another way, and that strength really comes through in the second half of the book
What Katrina said … plus it’s a total plot spoiler!
ugh… ehrmm… no clue really… coz the Shield isn’t the only (magical) equipment mentioned in the series – so it’d have been weird to put emphasis on that…?
*hahaha*… I REALLY should re-read the books.. ๐
^^ on a side note: I do agree with what Katrina wrote
I’d probably hold off on the Big ReRead just yet, Christine, because Book 4 is coming! But you’ll still have plenty of time between me passing the ms to my publishers (not there yet alas) and publication, to allow for an end-to-end reread.
so how much time are we talking? Did I overlook a possible publication date somewhere? *winks*
I’d also like to offer my services as a Beta-reader for the ms… never can have enough beta-readers ๐ *hahaha*
and I totes have no theory on the last reason… *shrugs*
are we going to have the same game for TCG? ๐
The latest update for WALL #4 kicked off the month of DAUGHTER so it’s right here: http://helenlowe.info/blog/2019/11/04/its-not-the-end-yet-but-i-can-see-it-from-here-a-wall-4-update/ As for more precise prognostications, I’d have to say that the Muses are pretty hardcore about not taking my calls on that one. I believe they just erase the voicemail as well, although I did get a txt reminder once, after a particularly long rant on this topic, that it was thirteen years between Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief and Bridge of Clay, the subtext being that I was still ahead of the curve and needed to quit bugging Muse HQ and just write on. ๐ So, always dutiful, I do indeed write on, every day that allows… ๐
Fun and jocularity aside, offers of beta readership are always very much appreciated, although Team Beta for WALL#4 has been locked in for some time. However, I am hopeful there will be many more books in future so the door is never closed.
As for games and TCG, am pretty sure I’ll come up with some new ones by then and will want to do something stupendous for the on-blog launch party. I shall likely call for reader thoughts on what constitutes *stupendous* in advance, too. ๐
You’re pretty good, I have to say. Mind you, being pretty durned good is no more than I would expect of The Wall Of Night series readers. ๐
Katrina nailed it right off re the influence of Myr on the title change, which both Kristen and Christine supported, and Kristen was on the money again with the Total Plot Spoiler.
But there *is* one more reason, which although not as vital as the first two, gained weight in combination with them.
Over to you-all again… ๐
