More Book Booty!
I’ve very nearly made it to the end of my January Book Booty list — only Pascal Mercier’s Night Train To Lisbon to go now.
And I’ve just been given three more for the T(o) B(e) R(ead) list. Herewith in alphabetical order by title:
City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert (2019)
Yes, the Elizabeth Gilbert of Eat, Pray, Love fame. This is a later work, which I would categorise as “recent historical” fiction, i.e. it starts in 1940 and covers a time period until 2010. From the backcover synopsis, it appears to be about a young woman, Vivian Morris, carving out a life for herself amid the New York showbiz scene and how that does—or doesn’t—work out for her.
Educated by Tara Westover (2018)
I’ve been meaning to read this book for some time. It’s a memoir about a young woman growing up in an “End of Days” family in the US and only gaining an education after she leaves home, at the age of sixteen. It was/is an international bestseller and the seven lead-in pages of positive reviews reinforce that a lot of people really liked it.
Songbirds by Christy Lefteri (2021)
Although a novel, I believe it is based upon true events that happened in Cyprus. This particular story is about the disappearance of a fictional woman, Nisha, and the people who try to find her. I shall let you know what I think — in due course, needless to say. 😀
