What’s Up on Supernatural Underground?
In addition to my latest “Great Leaders in Speculative Fiction” post, that is — which as you’ll know from last week, is honing in on a great leader who’s the antagonist rather than a hero. Still a great leader, though! So just in case you missed it, the post is here:
Great Leaders in Speculative Fiction #6: Ulric in David Gemmell’s Legend

But wait — there is definitely moar! Starting with Kim Falconer’s two-part post on The Art of Adaptation and Monsters:
Part 1 looks at Fantasy’s traditional monsters (e.g. vampires, fae, and dragons, to name just a few) and how so many are shapechangers, but also how their representation in literature is adapting and changing.

In Part 2, Kim looks at some of the new twists on monsters themselves and the exciting new books they appear in. Definitely of interest for all Fantasy aficionados.

There’s also some great ‘From The Backlist’ posts to check out:
Forbidden Fruit — And Don’t We Love It! by Karina Cooper
It’s a great post — well worth clicking on through to read the full original, too.

Morgana & Arthur
What Love Means
Again by Kim Falconer, this is a great post that looks at the differing Greek words for love, and how, from philia to agape, the love they define shapes so much storytelling.

Aragorn & Arwen
In What World? by Margaret Ronald
An indepth dive into worldbuilding and how “just add magic” affects the world and the storytelling.

Just add magic…
Something for everyone, I think — so take a look! And enjoy!!
