As soon as I began researching the topic, I quickly realized that whether Lawrence Durrell\u2019s Alexandria or Italo Calvino\u2019s invisible city, these places were so vital to the story being told that they were more than simply setting or backdrop\u2014they were \u201ccharacters\u201d in their own right.<\/em><\/p>\n
