Conversations<\/strong><\/p>\n

Going to the shop
\nto buy more lemons
\nthe wind riffles my hair<\/p>\n

tells me a dirty joke
\ngleaned from old papers
\nblown along the street<\/p>\n

we laugh together
\nare still laughing
\nwhen I walk home<\/p>\n

put the lemons
\ninto an azure bowl<\/p>\n

winter sunshine
\nacross the window sill<\/p>\n

put the rest
\ninto a lemon cake
\non a Kosta plate<\/p>\n

chrysanthemums
\nbrushed around the rim
\nby an unknown hand<\/p>\n

a message in a rare language \u2013
\nuntil today,
\nuntranslated.<\/p>\n

But because “VA Hospital Confessional”<\/em> is very much war poetry, today I thought I’d post one of my own poems, which is possibly the quintessence of ‘domestic’ poetry. Both themes, I feel, have their place, and need<\/em> to have their place, if poetry is to be an art that is part of the fabric (the ‘textured tapestry’, of course! ;-)) of our lives.<\/p>\n
