Having missed it on its release a couple of years ago, I read it in preparation for reading and reviewing the second book, released in April of this year. Upon finishing it, I decided it really deserved a review of its own, I enjoyed it that much &#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8230; In The Heir of Night, Lowe evokes a sense of elegance and myth, over a refreshing realism and grit. There\u2019s a sense of familiarity in themes and archetypes, but she takes them further, and handles them expertly and fondly. I particularly appreciate the unremarked sexual equality of the culture, and the point-of-view contributions to the narrative of many of the older characters.
