Some of those appearing, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookcouncil.org.nz\/writers\/hallbernadette.html\">Bernadette Hall<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookcouncil.org.nz\/writers\/aviatusiata.html\">Tusiata Avia<\/a>, are already poets I am privileged to know. Others&#8212;like poet laureates past and present <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookcouncil.org.nz\/writers\/mcqueencilla.html\">Cilla McQueen<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookcouncil.org.nz\/writers\/weddeian.html\">Ian Wedde<\/a> respectively&#8212;are those I am looking forward to hearing for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>In case you haven&#8217;t already checked them out, here is the lineup of poetry events:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Five New Zealand Poets<br \/>\nSunday 2 September 5.00pm, Geo Dome, Hagley Park<\/strong><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/e54f02441d295301469bb6929\/images\/2012_Riemke_Ensing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"94\" height=\"120\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/e54f02441d295301469bb6929\/images\/2012_Bernadett_Hall.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"94\" height=\"120\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/e54f02441d295301469bb6929\/images\/2012_Cilla_McQueen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"94\" height=\"120\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/e54f02441d295301469bb6929\/images\/2012_Harry_Ricketts.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"94\" height=\"120\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/e54f02441d295301469bb6929\/images\/2012_Ian_Wedde.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"94\" height=\"120\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/chchwritersfest.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=e54f02441d295301469bb6929&amp;id=6e633bcd86&amp;e=31021917fe\" target=\"_blank\">Five New Zealand Poets<\/a>&#8216; will end the festival on Sunday and culminate in the presentation of the 2012 Lauris Edmond Award for Poetry. Ian Wedde, the current New Zealand Poet Laureate, former laureate Cilla McQueen and\u00a0 renowned poets Bernadette Hall, Riemke Ensing and Harry Ricketts will all be reading in what promises to be a powerful festival finale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poetry for Lunch<br \/>\nSaturday 1 September, 11.00am, YMCA, Rolleston Avenue<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chchwritersfest.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=e54f02441d295301469bb6929&amp;id=9387dfbf3e&amp;e=31021917fe\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Poetry for Lunch: Tasty Morsels<\/a>&#8216; will feature two writers who are launching new collections at the festival, Karen Zelas and Kerrin Sharpe, as well as established poets Tusiata Avia, Ben Brown, Doc Drumheller, David Eggleton and Siobhan Harvey.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Survivor Poetry<br \/>\nFriday 31 August, 8.00pm, Geo Dome, Hagley Park<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/e54f02441d295301469bb6929\/images\/survivor_poetry_logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/chchwritersfest.us2.list-manage1.com\/track\/click?u=e54f02441d295301469bb6929&amp;id=c5b3f2cd7c&amp;e=31021917fe\" target=\"_blank\">Survivor Poetry: Out-Read-Out-Write-Out-Loud<\/a>&#8216; will test who can survive a brutal peer-voting system and present poetry responding to spontaneous challenges in front of a live audience.<\/p>\n<p>This event was cancelled with the festival in September 2010, but was subsequently held at, now a distant memory, Al\u2019s Bar.
