Still, for those who love the steampunk genre, or simply the mechanical age, staring down into the Earnslaw&#8217;s engine room with the coal being shovelled and all the pistons, widgits, and intricate gadgetry of a complex mechanical engine working&#8212;well, it&#8217;s quite something.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17446\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2012\/12\/02\/steampunk-holiday\/2012-11-19-13-09-23a\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17446\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17446\" class=\" wp-image-17446 \" title=\"2012-11-19 13.09.23a\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/2012-11-19-13.09.23a-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/2012-11-19-13.09.23a-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/2012-11-19-13.09.23a-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/2012-11-19-13.09.23a.jpg 410w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17446\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The working engine room<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As is that smokestack, which does make one reflect that it&#8217;s probably just as well, for the health of the planet, that they&#8217;re restricted to a few historic trains and vessels&#8212;and within the pages of steampunk adventures!<\/p>\n<p>Steampunk HQ though&#8212;that&#8217;s not in or even near Queenstown, but resides in historic Oamaru.
