{"id":19889,"date":"2013-04-06T06:30:05","date_gmt":"2013-04-05T17:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/?p=19889"},"modified":"2013-04-01T17:12:52","modified_gmt":"2013-04-01T04:12:52","slug":"new-zealand-national-flash-fiction-day-is-happening-again-and-theres-a-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2013\/04\/06\/new-zealand-national-flash-fiction-day-is-happening-again-and-theres-a-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"New Zealand National Flash Fiction Day Is Happening Again&#8212;And There&#8217;s A Contest!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Zealand celebrated its inaugural Flash Fiction day last year&#8212;with events from Northland to Canterbury and many places in between that included regional writing competitions, a 24-hr write-in, workshops, flash presentations and readings.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that it&#8217;s happening again this year, on <strong>June 22nd, 2013.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And once again, there&#8217;s going to be a competition&#8212;it opened on 1 April, in fact, and <strong>runs to May 31.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Judges are still to be announced, but here&#8217;s the contest low-down to date, as received from the organisers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;submissions open 1 April &#8211; 31 May 2013<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">competition open to all NZ citizens and residents<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">open competition; no theme or prompt<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">no entry fee (it&#8217;s free&#8211;squee!)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">only previously unpublished* work will be considered<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">deadline for submissions: 31 May 2013<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">word limit: 300\u00a0<em>excluding<\/em>\u00a0title<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">maximum three stories per person<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">electronic submissions only<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">submissions must be sent as\u00a0attachments\u00a0(not in the body of the email)\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:nationalflash@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">nationalflash [at] gmail [dot] com<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">send in one of the following formats:\u00a0.doc, .docx, .jpeg, .pdf<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">submissions must be received\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no later than<\/span> midnight, 31 May 2013<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em>*Published means anything that has already appeared anywhere in print or online, including personal websites or blogs.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Winners will be notified in early June and a prize-giving event with readings will take place at the\u00a0Auckland Central City Library, 44-46 Lorne Street on 22 June 2013.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Zealand celebrated its inaugural Flash Fiction day last year&#8212;with events from Northland to Canterbury and many places in between that included regional writing competitions, a 24-hr write-in, workshops, flash presentations and readings.
