{"id":218,"date":"2010-06-22T21:11:26","date_gmt":"2010-06-22T09:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/?p=218"},"modified":"2010-07-06T15:11:48","modified_gmt":"2010-07-06T03:11:48","slug":"poetry-tuesday-more-poetry-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2010\/06\/22\/poetry-tuesday-more-poetry-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Poetry Tuesday: More Poetry News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been invited to become an <strong>editor<\/strong> of the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tuesdaypoem.blogspot.com\/\"> <strong>Tuesday Poem blog<\/strong><\/a>\u2014which is very cool.\u00a0 In practical terms, this means that every 30th week I will get to select the poem that appears on the Tuesday Poem blog site, plus providing commentary for the selection. (What I was going to call my &#8220;terribly important thoughts&#8221; about the poem, but I don&#8217;t like the acronym so I&#8217;m going with &#8220;very important thoughts&#8221; instead. Et voila!)<\/p>\n<p>I have also just had 2 poems, <em>Giacometti <\/em>and <em>Oral History<\/em> accepted for the forthcoming issue of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jaam.wordpress.com\/\">JAAM<\/a><\/strong>, which is edition 28 with the theme of <em>Dance Dance Dance<\/em> and is edited by <strong>Helen Rickerby<\/strong> and <strong>Clare Needham<\/strong>. Helen Rickerby is also an editor of the Tuesday Poem blog, as well as having her own <a href=\"http:\/\/wingedink.blogspot.com\/\"><strong><em>Winged Ink<\/em><\/strong><\/a> site, which well repays a visit. And if checking out her poetry online, I particularly recommend <em>Empress Elisabeth. <\/em>Hmm, yes: <em>love <\/em>that poem!<\/p>\n<p>(By the way, have you noticed how many Helens there are in the world of contemporary NZ poetry:\u00a0 Helen Heath, Helen Jacobs, Helen Lehndorf, Helen Lowe, Helen McKinley, Helen Rickerby, Helen Yong &#8230; to enumerate the few that immediately spring to mind. I have a feeling there may be more.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/marsh-fasttalkingPI.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-231\" title=\"marsh-fasttalkingPI\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/marsh-fasttalkingPI.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"154\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last but not least, the winner of the NZ Society of Authors Jessie Mackay Award for the Best First Book of Poetry is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzepc.auckland.ac.nz\/pasifika\/marsh1.asp\"><strong>Selina Tusitala Marsh<\/strong><\/a> for <em><strong>Fast Talking PI <\/strong><\/em>(Auckland University Press.) Although disappointed that there is no shortlist for this award as there is for the National Poetry Award (are new voices so unworthy, powers that be?)
