It was very nice to see a post on my local Christchurch City Libraries<\/a> blog yesterday, featuring my shortlisting for the David Gemmell Legend Award.<\/p>\n

The post was even kind enough to describe my writing career as ‘stellar’, which was kinda cool. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

I also smiled to read: “Publicly announcing you are writing a 4 novel series seems a very brave thing to do. Can you keep the story and characters credible over 4 books? Keep them interesting and maintain the standard?”<\/em><\/p>\n

Mainly because one of the reasons I have spent so much time on Daughter of Blood<\/em><\/strong>, The Wall of Night<\/a> Book Three<\/strong> is for all those reasons: to keep the story and the characters credible for readers, and to maintain the standard as the story progresses — because as I said in my Legend Award finalist’s interview<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“I like to describe The Wall of Night as one story told in four parts … It\u2019s still really the one story, but in fact each \u2018part\u2019, i.e. book, is turning out to have its own distinct character, which is fun, although it can also be demanding to write.”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

But it’s nice to know that folk out there understand that it’s not necessarily a “1-2-3, join-the-dots-and-you’re-done” type exercise. Again, I also very much appreciate the shout out.<\/p>\n
