On Monday, I welcomed fellow Hachette<\/a> author, Diane Setterfield, to NZ and the festival. Today I am delighted to extend the same warm welcome to crime writer, Yrsa Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Welcoming\u00a0Yrsa Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir to WORDChristchurch<\/h3>\n

\"YrsaSigurdsdottir\"<\/a>Icelandic author Yrsa Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir wrote prize-winning children\u2019s novels before writing Last Rituals<\/em><\/strong>, her first adult novel and described as a “chilling, grisly thriller.”\u00a0 Her latest crime novel, The Silence of the Sea<\/em><\/strong>, is the sixth crime novel to feature attorney Thora Gudmundsdottir.<\/p>\n

The other\u00a0Gudmundsdottir novels are: My Soul to Take<\/strong>,<\/em> Ashes to Dust<\/em><\/strong>, The Day is Dark<\/strong> <\/em>and Someone to Watch Over Me<\/strong>. <\/em>She has also written a standalone horror novel, I Remember You<\/em><\/strong>, which was published in the UK in 2012. All of her adult novels have been European bestsellers. Yrsa Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir also works as a civil engineer and lives in Reykjavik.<\/p>\n

The Independent<\/strong> also described Yrsa Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir as: “<\/em>A generator of fear quite as adroit as such writers as Stephen King.”<\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n

High praise indeed and clearly an author to catch—but you only have one opportunity in this festival:<\/span><\/p>\n
