{"id":2765,"date":"2010-12-16T06:30:04","date_gmt":"2010-12-15T17:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/?p=2765"},"modified":"2010-12-12T19:49:22","modified_gmt":"2010-12-12T06:49:22","slug":"sir-julius-vogel-award-nominations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2010\/12\/16\/sir-julius-vogel-award-nominations\/","title":{"rendered":"Sir Julius Vogel Award Nominations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jan Butterworth, Press Officer for the <strong>Science Fiction Fantasy Association of New Zealand (SFFANZ)<\/strong>, has asked me to advise blog readers that the <strong>Sir Julius Vogel Awards<\/strong> will be open for nomination from 1 January 2011, closing on 31 March 2011.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2771\" style=\"width: 95px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/award_sirjulius.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2771\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2771\" title=\"award_sirjulius\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/award_sirjulius.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"85\" height=\"85\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2771\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sir Julius Vogel Award trophy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Sir Julius Vogel Awards are given annually by SFFANZ and recognize achievement in Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror by New Zealanders. Previous professional category winners include <strong>Brian Falkner, Russell Kirkpatrick, Anna MacKenzie, James Norcliffe, Juliet Marillier<\/strong> and <strong>Nalini Singh<\/strong>, and I won the award for <strong>Best Novel: Young Adult<\/strong> for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thornspell.info\/index.html\"><strong><em>Thornspell<\/em><\/strong><\/a> in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>The Sir Julius Vogel Awards are a reader&#8217;s\/fan choice award and initial nominations are\u00a0 open to everyone. The final vote for shortlisted works is restricted to members of SFFANZ and those attending the national convention (to be held next year over Queen&#8217;s Birthday weekend.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Categories of award<\/strong>, for works created by a New Zealander and first published or released in the 2010 calendar year, include:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Professional Categories<\/strong>:<\/em><br \/>\nBest Novel<br \/>\nBest Novella or Novelette<br \/>\nBest Short Story<br \/>\nBest Collected Work<br \/>\nBest Artwork<br \/>\nDramatic Presentation<br \/>\n&#8211; Long Form<br \/>\n&#8211; Short Form<br \/>\nBest Production\/Publication<br \/>\nBest New Talent<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Fan Categories:<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nBest Fan Writing<br \/>\nBest Fan Artwork<br \/>\nBest Fan Editing<br \/>\nBest Fan Publication<br \/>\nBest Fan Production<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Special Awards:<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nServices to Fandom<br \/>\nServices to Science Fiction,   Fantasy or Horror<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in finding out more or nominating a work or works, you can read\u00a0 the rules and criteria <a href=\"http:\/\/sffanz.sf.org.nz\/sjv\/sjvAwardsRules_2011.shtml\">here<\/a>.
