How does that work? \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>So first off, I was alerted to the fact that <a href=\"http:\/\/helenlowe.info\/gatheringofthelost.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Gathering Of The Lost<\/strong><\/a> played a starring role in this week&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsignal.com\/archives\/2015\/03\/mind-meld-sff-series-that-hooked-us-after-the-first-book\/\" target=\"_blank\">SF Signal Mind Meld<\/a> &#8212; so OK, you have to scroll down a bit, but <em><strong>Gathering<\/strong><\/em> is there, all the same!<\/p>\n<p>The Mind Meld theme is:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsignal.com\/archives\/2015\/03\/mind-meld-sff-series-that-hooked-us-after-the-first-book\/\" target=\"_blank\">SFF Series That Hooked Us After the First Book<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.courtneyschafer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Courtney Schafer<\/a>&#8212;clearly a paragon of good taste and discernment&#8212;was of the view that although she enjoyed <a href=\"http:\/\/helenlowe.info\/heirofnight.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Heir Of Night<\/strong><\/a> (phew!) <strong>The Gathering Of The Lost<\/strong> <em>&#8220;leveled up the series to a whole new plane of awesome.&#8221; <\/em>And there&#8217;s some cover love, too\u00a0 &#8212; more awesome. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2012\/12\/13\/my-favourite-epic-fantasy-series\/gardens_of_the_moon\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17623\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-17623\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Gardens_of_the_Moon-88x150.jpg\" alt=\"Gardens_of_the_Moon\" width=\"88\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Gardens_of_the_Moon-88x150.jpg 88w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Gardens_of_the_Moon-177x300.jpg 177w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Gardens_of_the_Moon.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 88px) 100vw, 88px\" \/><\/a>Some of the other series mentioned were also of interest to me, particularly Steven Erikson&#8217;s the <strong>Malazan Book of the Fallen. <\/strong>A couple of contributors shook their heads over<strong> Gardens Of The Moon<\/strong> in relation to its immediate successors<strong> Deadhouse Gates <\/strong>and <strong>Memories Of Ice<\/strong>. While I agree that the latter are both excellent books and I am a huge fan of Coltaine and the Chain of Dogs in <strong>Deadhouse Gates<\/strong>, I also really loved <strong><em>Gardens Of The Moon<\/em><\/strong>. It definitely hooked me on the series.
