The recent unveiling of the US<\/a>\u00a0 and UK<\/a> covers for Daughter Of Blood<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014 and now the new look US covers<\/a> for the whole WALL of Night<\/a> series \u2014 has inspired me to spend some blog time with the characters from the first two books in the series, in the same way I spent time on the worldbuilding in A Geography Of Haarth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I also decided to focus on minor players to begin with, because: \u201cI think it\u2019s the presence of the smaller characters that \u201cmakes\u201d a story, creating texture around the main points of view.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Today’s minor character—and unlike Garan, last week<\/a>, he is very minor indeed in the context of the story, despite imposing titles—is Gerenth.<\/p>\n

Gerenth:<\/strong> military commander of both the Keep of Winds garrison and the House of Night<\/span><\/p>\n

Even the Earl and his household, generally more reserved, seemed relaxed. Nhairin smiled her twisted smile at some joke of Haimyr’s; Gerenth, overhearing, brayed out a laugh.”<\/span> <\/em><\/p>\n
