{"id":30306,"date":"2015-10-19T06:30:15","date_gmt":"2015-10-18T17:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/?p=30306"},"modified":"2015-10-18T21:31:30","modified_gmt":"2015-10-18T08:31:30","slug":"awe-inspiring-settings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2015\/10\/19\/awe-inspiring-settings\/","title":{"rendered":"Awe-Inspiring Settings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been away for a couple of weeks, so when I saw Matthew Kressel&#8217;s October 12 post on TOR.com, on the fascinating topic of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tor.com\/2015\/10\/12\/five-fantasy-books-with-awe-inspiring-settings\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Five Fantasy Books With Awe-Inspiring Settings&#8221;<\/a>, I longed to do my fangal thing and comment saying, <em>&#8220;Yes, of course&#8212;and also&#8230;!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But I couldn&#8217;t remember my TOR.com user id and password&#8212;so instead, especially now I&#8217;m home again, I thought I&#8217;d better post on a few Fantasy worlds (other\u00a0 than those mentioned by Matthew) that I consider awe-inspiring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/06\/27\/videos-from-the-context-readings-from-thornspell-mary-victorias-tymons-flight-read-by-helen-lowe\/cov_tymans-flight-indd-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6136\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-6136\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/COV_TymansFlight-91x150.jpg\" alt=\"COV_Tymans Flight.indd\" width=\"91\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/COV_TymansFlight-91x150.jpg 91w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/COV_TymansFlight-183x300.jpg 183w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/COV_TymansFlight-626x1024.jpg 626w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/COV_TymansFlight.jpg 1377w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 91px) 100vw, 91px\" \/><\/a>Starting with my friend, <a href=\"http:\/\/maryvictoria.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Victoria&#8217;s<\/a> &#8220;Chronicles of the Tree&#8221; trilogy (<strong><em>Tymon&#8217;s Flight<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>Samiha&#8217;s Song<\/em><\/strong>, and <em><strong>Oracle&#8217;s Fire<\/strong><\/em>&#8212;all published by Harper Voyager) where the world is an enormous tree that is at least the size of the Himalayas&#8212;and the entire world building, in terms of culture, technology, and religion is Tree-based.
