With the Prologue to Daughter of Blood<\/em> unveiled on SF Signal<\/a> on Monday, publication day feels like it is getting close\u00a0 \u2014 and that has inspired me to spend some time with characters from The Wall Of Night <\/a>series, in the same way I featured\u00a0 worldbuilding in A Geography Of Haarth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been focusing on minor players for now, because: \u201cI think it\u2019s the presence of the smaller characters that \u201cmakes\u201d a story, creating texture around the main points of view.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Today\u2019s character is Kyr, and like Garan <\/a>a few weeks ago, arguably he’s a little more than a minor character in The Heir of Night<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. But he’s not a major player either—and it would be a shame to overlook him.<\/p>\n

Kyr:\u00a0<\/strong> a guard, serving the House of Night<\/span><\/p>\n

‘It was the fourth day since they had fled the Keep of Winds, traveling through the narrow ways of the Wall while the storm raged above them. It had taken two full days to blow itself out, just as Haimyr had predicted, and they had reached the western rim of the Wall by the end of the second day. The evening light had been in their faces when Kyr pointed beyond the rock-strewn foothills to the vast, flat emptiness that was the Gray Lands. “That is the way we must go,” he’d said. “We shall travel by night to avoid prying eyes, although it will make our progress slower.” ‘<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
