{"id":30603,"date":"2015-11-21T06:30:58","date_gmt":"2015-11-20T17:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/?p=30603"},"modified":"2015-11-19T23:24:00","modified_gmt":"2015-11-19T10:24:00","slug":"speaking-of-arthurian-influenced-fantasy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2015\/11\/21\/speaking-of-arthurian-influenced-fantasy\/","title":{"rendered":"Speaking of Arthurian-Influenced Fantasy &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2010\/06\/09\/thornspell-here-in-paperback-july-2\/thornspellcover_small\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-76\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-76\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/thornspellcover_small.jpg\" alt=\"Thornspell\" width=\"140\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a>&#8230; particularly for Junior\/YA Readers, I realised that &#8212; of <em>course<\/em> (duh!) &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thornspell.info\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Thornspell<\/em><\/a> is also Arthurian-influenced Fantasy.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not the main focus of the story, which is a retelling of the <strong><em>Sleeping Beauty<\/em><\/strong> fairytale from the perspective of the prince, but I did manage to weave in elements of the Parsifal legend.\u00a0 And Parsifal, dear readers, is <em>definitely<\/em> part of the Arthurian cycle.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not really part of &#8220;The Matter of Britain&#8221;, though, or at least not as strongly as other parts of the cycle. The earliest known retelling is <strong><i>Parzival<\/i><\/strong> by Wolfram von Eschenbach, a 13th-century German epic poem &#8212; of the Arthurian knight, Parzival, and his quest for the Holy Grail.<\/p>\n<p>Still, <strong><em>Thornspell<\/em><\/strong> was published in 2008, which does make it a relatively recent story to fall under the Arthurian influence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230; particularly for Junior\/YA Readers, I realised that &#8212; of course (duh!) &#8212; Thornspell is also Arthurian-influenced Fantasy.
