With the Prologue to Daughter of Blood<\/em>\u00a0<\/a> now unveiled on SF Signal, publication day feels like it\u2019s getting close<\/em>\u00a0 \u2014 and that has inspired me to spend some time with characters from The Wall Of Night <\/a>series, in the same way I featured worldbuilding in A Geography Of Haarth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been focusing on minor players for now, because: \u201cI think it\u2019s the presence of the smaller characters that \u201cmakes\u201d a story, creating texture around the main points of view.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Like, Kyr, a few weeks back<\/a>, and Garan earlier in the series<\/a>, Lira is poised on the cusp of being more than a minor character. However, although she plays a small but significant part in the The Heir of Night<\/em><\/strong><\/a> story, she does not have a major role in the series overall—but either way, she merits her moment in the spotlight.<\/p>\n

‘Malian looked past Nhairin to where the two guards still squatted on their heels by the entrance. Kyr looked grim, but Lira gave her a reassuring smile and a wink as she looped a water bottle onto her belt and checked her knives. \u201cA horse would be too obvious by daylight, in this terrain,\u201d she said, picking up her rider’s bow and pitching her voice just loud enough for Malian to hear. \u201cI’ll scout this one on foot.\u201d ‘<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
