Several hundred years old – but not important enough to protect<\/p><\/div>\n

Meet the Burnside Cabbage Tree\/s:<\/span><\/h3>\n

“The Burnside cabbage tree\/s are old–several hundred years old … and also culturally significant…”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

As noted on the Give A Little site, the Burnside cabbage tree is not proposed for continued listing and protection.<\/p>\n

And here’s the poem (just a few\u00a0 lines):<\/p>\n

“Cordyline on a windswept point\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0stark<\/span>
\n each frond stabbing<\/span>
\n sharp as a taiaha\u2019s\u00a0 blade …”<\/span><\/p>\n

Meet the Cooptown Limes:<\/span><\/h3>\n

The following is quoted directly from my evidence for the hearings:<\/p>\n

“Located at Cooptown on SH 75, this lime avenue was planted in 1940 to commemorate the centenary of the Treaty of Waitangi …”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Again, the Council’s current proposal is that the Cooptown limes not continue to be listed or protected under the Replacement Plan.<\/p>\n
