I have not one but two interviews “live” in the wild right now.<\/p>\n

The first is with the outstanding Tarran Jones<\/strong>, who is both a book lover and now writer herself. Although resident in Adelaide, I met Tarran at the Melbourne Worldcon in 2010 and we have stayed in touch ever since.<\/p>\n

Naturally she asked many insightful questions, including seeking my author’s insight into my main characters and what I thought made Malian and Kalan special. A hard question for a naturally self-effacing Kiwi author to answer—but here’s my attempt:<\/p>\n

“…In many ways it is Kalan whose character arc drives <\/em>Daughter of Blood, stepping up as champion and captain \u2013 in part because he is an essentially goodhearted person, as you yourself once observed, Tarran. It is this that makes him special, because he doesn\u2019t stand back when he sees the need for someone to step up.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Malian, though, is the main character…”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The second interview is with the equally wonderful Kristin Centorcelli<\/strong> of My Bookish Ways<\/a>, whom I also know as the assistant editor at SF Signal. Unlike Tarran, we have not met in person though.<\/p>\n

I was delighted to have the opportunity to do be interviewed by Kristin, who did not hold back, but launched straight into what readers could expect from Daughter of Blood<\/em>. Here’s what I said:<\/p>\n

“A question I\u2019ve fielded from several readers is whether Daughter of Blood<\/strong> (Book Three) will see the same five year time gap that occurred between events in The Heir of Night<\/strong> (Book One)and those in The Gathering of the Lost<\/strong> (Book Two). So I can definitely say that is not the case: events in Daughter of Blood<\/strong> follow on fairly directly from those at the conclusion of Book Two …”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
