{"id":31636,"date":"2016-03-06T06:30:11","date_gmt":"2016-03-05T17:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/?p=31636"},"modified":"2016-03-05T16:39:37","modified_gmt":"2016-03-05T03:39:37","slug":"58-eridani-episode-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2016\/03\/06\/58-eridani-episode-12\/","title":{"rendered":"58 Eridani: Episode 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>~ by Andrew Robins<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong>Free_Trader_Mistral\\ Core\\Private_Log_Buffy_Chinks \\2780<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">So here\u2019s how it works.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Turns out that our friend <em>Bringer<\/em> is a RI as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">What\u2019s left of the people who built <em>Bringer<\/em> is what we now call the Vaders, and Bringer cannot act directly against them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The Vaders were originally just an ordinary biological race. Over time they upgraded and improved themselves to the point where they became true cybernetic beings, with an incredibly robust biology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">They built <em>Bringer<\/em> to be a gateway, which would allow them to take their planet and star &#8212; basically wherever they wanted to go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">I guess their plan was to be the universe&#8217;s ultimate tourists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Things didn\u2019t work out like that for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><em>Bringer<\/em> refers to what happened next as \u201cthe breaking of realms\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><em>Bringer&#8217;s<\/em> first jump unleashed a torrent of energy that warped the very fabric of space-time to the point where an out-of-context event occurred.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">That event was the arrival of <strong>something <\/strong>in riftspace that was <em>\u201csearching for a way to become conscious.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The way it found to do that was to colonise the cybernetic part of the Vader biology and extinguish the consciousness of the rest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Bummer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Exit proto-Vaders, enter \u00a0vader-Vaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">It gets more complicated than that, though. All this happened mid jump, and that jump is still going on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">If <em>Bringer<\/em> lets the jump complete, then Mission Target Three arrives here fully, with all the technological artifacts it contains. This would be very bad news for the rest of the universe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">So right now <em>Bringer<\/em> maintains Mission Target Three and its parent star as a family of <em>\u201cindividual objects that exist in two states.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In one state we have Mission Target Three as a deserted jungle world with lots of interesting artifacts quietly decaying into muck.
