A few weeks back I posted the exciting news<\/a> that Daughter of Blood<\/em><\/a> (The Wall Of Night<\/a> Book Three) has been longlisted for the Gemmell “Legend” Award for Best Fantasy Novel 2016 — and public voting is now open to decide which five books will make the shortlist, right here:<\/p>\n

If you don’t know much about the Gemmell Awards, here’s a little more information:<\/p>\n

About the Gemmell Awards:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Awards were established to honor epic fantasy author David Gemmell<\/a>, following his death in 2006, and were first awarded in 2009.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>There are three awards, all named after a David Gemmell novel: the Legend Award for Best fantasy Novel (the “open” category); the Morningstar Award for Best Fantasy Newcomer; and the Ravenheart Award for Best Cover Art (i.e. this is for the artist, not the author.)<\/p>\n

Although the award titles say “Best Fantasy” I believe it is reasonably well understood that the awards focus on works in the epic fantasy or heroic fantasy subgenre that David Gemmell made his own. So, for example, one would be less likely to expect works of paranormal urban fantasy to appear on the Gemmell Award lists. (Although it’s not absolutely inconceivable that they should do so: a book like Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere<\/em> for example, might come close to bridging the subgenres.)<\/p>\n

David Gemmell Legend Awards<\/a><\/h4>\n

You’ll see, too, that The Heir of Night<\/a><\/em> won the Morningstar Award in 2012, which was a tremendous honour, and The Gathering Of The Lost<\/a><\/em> was a finalist for the Legend Award in 2013 — again a\u00a0 tremendous buzz.<\/p>\n

This year it’s Daughter of Blood<\/em>‘s turn to go up against the best books of 2016 in the Legend Award. The cover is also up for the Ravenheart Award as well. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

So if you’d like to support Daughter of Blood<\/em> with your vote I’d be greatly honored.<\/p>\n

However, there are some very fine books on the longlist and the important thing is to support the genre and ‘have your say’ by casting a vote.<\/p>\n
