Recently, I resumed my \u201cAbout the Characters\u201d<\/a> post series that focuses on the minor characters in The Wall Of Night<\/a> series, because :<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s the presence of the smaller characters that \u201cmakes\u201d a story, creating texture around the main points of view.\u201d

Initially, the series focused exclusively on characters from The Heir of Night<\/em><\/a>, but now I\u2019m continuing on with minor characters from both The Gathering Of The Lost<\/em><\/a> and Daughter of Blood<\/em><\/a> simultaneously \u2014 in alphabetical order, of course!<\/p>\n
(The quotes, together with the covers, indicate whether the character appears in both or only one of the books.)<\/p>\n

“Convenient, Kalan thought…\u201cI take it no one\u2019s gone after the stock that was run-off?\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
Sarr and Aiv looked blank, but Baris turned on him. \u201cOn foot? After what killed the armed warriors on guard here?\u201d The groom was shaking, his face twisted with loathing and fear.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
Kalan kept his voice calm. \u201cI didn\u2019t say I thought you should have gone. I asked if anyone had.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cNot that we know of.\u201d Sarr straightened, his expression turning bleak. \u201cI know the caravan\u2019s crippled without \u2019em, but\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cBaris is right,\u201d Kalan said, still calmly. \u201cPursuit would be folly.\u201d Suicide, he thought somberly…”
