In 2017, I resumed my \u201cAbout the Characters\u201d<\/a> post series that focuses on the minor characters in The Wall Of Night<\/a> series, because :<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s the presence of the smaller characters that \u201cmakes\u201d a story, creating texture around the main points of view.\u201d

Initially, the series focused exclusively on characters from The Heir of Night<\/em><\/a>, but now I\u2019m continuing on with minor characters from both The Gathering Of The Lost<\/em><\/a> and Daughter of Blood<\/em><\/a> simultaneously \u2014 in alphabetical order, of course!<\/p>\n
(The quotes, together with the covers, indicate whether the character appears in both or only one of the books\u2014although at present we\u2019re having a run on single entries!)<\/p>\n

Darrar:<\/strong> a farrier in the Derai House of Blood<\/span><\/p>\n
He could smell the fear rolling off the defenders and someone nearby was praying to Mhaelanar, the Defender\u2014although once the god\u2019s name had been uttered, the invocation seemed to be mainly \u201cplease, please, please.\u201d Which could mean anything, Kalan knew, from please don\u2019t let me fail, to please let me live. He noted, too, that it was Mhaelanar the prayer called on, rather than Kharalth with her fistful of skulls. A sideways glance showed him Darrar, one of Sarr\u2019s assistants.
