Last year, I resumed my\u00a0\u201cAbout the Characters\u201d<\/a>\u00a0post series that focuses on the minor characters in\u00a0The Wall Of Night<\/a>\u00a0series, because:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s the presence of the smaller characters that \u201cmakes\u201d a story, creating texture around the main points of view.\u201d

Initially, the series focused exclusively on characters from\u00a0The Heir of Night<\/em><\/a>, but now I\u2019m continuing on with minor characters from both\u00a0The Gathering Of The Lost<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Daughter of Blood<\/em><\/a>\u00a0simultaneously \u2014 in alphabetical order, of course!<\/p>\n
(The quotes, together with the covers, indicate whether the character appears in both or only one of the books \u2014 and we\u2019re back to a single entry today.\u00a0😉\u00a0)<\/p>\n

The landscape surrounding the road was drear, with a thin, unhappy wind whistling across a stony plain and prying at Malian\u2019s clothes. The cairn she had seen through the mist stood directly in front of her now, with the same hound lying before it. The beast lifted its head as she drew near\u2014as though it, too, is in the dream, Malian thought, or can see me through it.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cFalath,\u201d she said, and the hound whined, deep in his throat. \u201cYou must be an old hound now.\u201d In the dream, she rubbed his head as she had when they were both younger and dwelt in the Keep of Winds. Falath thumped his feathery tail.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

They halted in another dip, several hundred yards out from the rockpile, before he and Nerys took their bows and proceeded on foot, circling wide to find a vantage point that overlooked both cairn and rockpile. The hound, Falath, was a pale glimmer beside the tomb, with no sign of anyone else present. But the fugitive could easily lie concealed among the rocks, even if Falath would not allow entry into the cairn.<\/em><\/span>
