Last year, I resumed my\u00a0\u201cAbout the Characters\u201d<\/a>\u00a0post series that focuses on the minor characters in\u00a0The Wall Of Night<\/a>\u00a0series, because:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s the presence of the smaller characters that \u201cmakes\u201d a story, creating texture around the main points of view.\u201d

Initially, the series focused exclusively on characters from\u00a0The Heir of Night<\/em><\/a>, but now I\u2019m continuing on with minor characters from both\u00a0The Gathering Of The Lost<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Daughter of Blood<\/em><\/a>\u00a0simultaneously \u2014 in alphabetical order, of course!<\/p>\n
(The quotes, together with the covers, indicate whether the character appears in both or only one of the books \u2014 and we\u2019re back to a single entry today. 😉 )<\/p>\n

Gervon:<\/strong> a priest of Serrut and teacher — or “maister” — at Normarch, on Emer’s northern march<\/span><\/p>\n
“The only cloud on the surface of his Normarch life was Maister Gervon, whose initial distance had quickly become outright hostility. Carick tried to stay out of the man’s way, but their paths kept crossing. He would turn a corner and find Gervon there, the man\u2019s pale blue stare turning to ice when he recognized Carick\u2014although the maister only spoke if there was no one else present to hear his sneers or acid-etched derision.”<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
