(The first Web Shifters trilogy comprises <em>Beholder\u2019s Eye<\/em>, <em>Changing Vision<\/em>, and <em>Hidden In Sight<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>As part of the release of <em>Search Image<\/em>, Julie also released a standalone novella, titled <em>The Only Thing To Fear<\/em>, which is a very near-in-time prequel to <em>Search Image<\/em>, reintroduces readers to the principal Web Shifters\u2019 characters of Esen, Paul, and Skalet, among others, and introduces the character of Evan Gooseberry who will also play a significant part in <em>Search Image.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, <em>The Only Thing To Fear <\/em>is not \u2013 or not only \u2013 an introduction to <em>Search Image<\/em>, it is also very much a story in its own right. And a fun, adventurous, and scientifically interesting story &#8212; particularly from Julie\u2019s strong suite of biology-informed world- and species-building &#8212; as well as having a really intriguing festival as a central point in the story.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-36397\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/SearchImage_cover-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/SearchImage_cover-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/SearchImage_cover-100x150.jpg 100w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/SearchImage_cover.jpg 206w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/>As you may recall from my earlier post on <em>Search Image<\/em>, I really like the character of Esen and this novella reintroduces her character for readers while establishing Evan as a major player in the forthcoming series.<\/p>\n<p>So, a lot to like, especially for those who love a good space opera that has serious stakes without being too heavy going.
