Initially, the series focused exclusively on characters from The Heir of Night<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, but now I\u2019m continuing on with minor characters from both The Gathering Of The Lost<\/strong><\/em><\/a> and Daughter of Blood<\/strong><\/em><\/a> \u2014 in alphabetical order, by name, of course!<\/p>\n

It’s been a while now since we’ve had a character that appears in both The <\/em>Gathering of the Lost<\/em> and Daughter of Blood<\/em>—but today is that day! \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

Lord Falk:\u00a0<\/strong> Castellan of the Northern March of Emer, in the Southern Realms of Haarth<\/span><\/p>\n

When Carick looked again the two combatants were still hammering away at each other, but their adherents had fallen silent, easing away from a chestnut destrier that had appeared in the gate. The chestnut\u2019s rider was bareheaded; the early breeze riffled thinning sandy hair as he surveyed the yard, and the voice that spoke was light, but with an edge beneath the even tone. \u201cWhat,\u201d the newcomer asked, \u201cis going on here?\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The rider had not seemed to raise his voice, but it cut across the clash of swords all the same. The two combatants sprang back, lowering their blades; their faces wore matching expressions of chagrin and apprehension as they turned toward the gate. \u201cLord Falk,\u201d Girvase said, gasping for breath. \u201cSer, we didn’t realize \u2026\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

So this, thought Carick, taking in the mix of dismay and apprehension around the yard, is the Castellan of Normarch, the Duke\u2019s foster brother and strong right arm in Emer\u2019s wild north.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Drifts of mist lay between black trunks and a russet fox slipped out of the undergrowth, stopping with one paw raised to gaze at her from eyes she knew would be the color of barley ale. Above its head, a knot in an oak trunk twisted into a fox\u2019s mask before shifting into the face of Lord Falk, Castellan of Normarch and leader of the Emerian Oakward. The russet fox slipped away.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAh,\u201d Lord Falk\u2019s expression was as inscrutable as any Raven could muster. \u201cI wondered when you would come calling on me again.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
