The phrase is \u201cThe Hour of Scampering\u201d and is used by the (alien) Vorlon ambassador to describe the early evening, between work, home, and socializing, when human beings are particularly busy in the space station\u2019s public forum, i.e. \u201cscampering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(The phrase is used in <em>Deathwalker<\/em>, one of the finest episodes, imho, in the somewhat patchy Season 1.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-40059\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Babylon_5-Season-1-208x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"208\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Babylon_5-Season-1-208x300.jpg 208w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Babylon_5-Season-1-104x150.jpg 104w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Babylon_5-Season-1.jpg 327w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 208px) 100vw, 208px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My juxtaposition involved cribbing the phrase, \u201ca time of scurrying\u201d to encapsulate the current process of moving from one section of the book to the next\u2014the scurrying involved being the back and forth between the two as I realize that, <em>\u201cOh yes, if the new section\u2019s going to work <\/em>this <em>way, then<\/em> that <em>has to happen a little earlier.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16904\" style=\"width: 218px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16904\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16904\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Babylon5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"208\" height=\"156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Babylon5.jpeg 208w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Babylon5-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 208px) 100vw, 208px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-16904\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ambassador Kosh, Babylon-5<\/p><\/div>\n<p>All to ensure the setup has the right entry vector, which is, of course, a noble endeavour. The further I get from the initial crossover, though, the less scurrying is required, as accomplishing the \u201cthis\u201d drives its own forward momentum.<\/p>\n<p>By way of good news, there\u2019s still a little scurrying currently, but I can feel the forward momentum building.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have always loved Katharine Kerr\u2019s Daggerspell, which kicks off her first Fantasy quartet, the Deverry series.
