I was intending to get a post in for NZ Poetry Month, which was August, and realise it has swooped on by me with nary a poetry post to show for it.<\/p>\n

And then I thought, well isn\u2019t every month Poetry Month, for a poet, and every day, Poetry Day?<\/p>\n

So in that spirit, I am<\/em> posting a poem for you today. I\u2019ve chosen one that\u2019s in the spirit of Inside the Writing Life.<\/p>\n

The writer at the centre of the poem is Katherine Mansfield<\/a>, who is among NZ\u2019s most renowned authors internationally.<\/p>\n

Although I\u2019ve featured it before as part of the Tuesday Poem community, I hope you\u2019ll enjoy it again today:<\/p>\n

Orison<\/span><\/h3>\n
~ a Meditation on Katherine Mansfield,\r\nin the south of France<\/span><\/pre>\n
A<\/em> bell calls on sleepy air<\/span>
\nresonant<\/span>
\nwith late afternoon<\/span><\/p>\n
sheep click & clack<\/span>
\nover cobbles<\/span>
\nthe smell of fleece<\/span>
\nhangs on the hour<\/span><\/p>\n
an olive tree taps<\/span>
\nagainst glass \u2013<\/span>
\nthrough twig and leaf<\/span>
\nthere is sea, bright<\/span>
\nbeneath a blaze of sky<\/span><\/p>\n
the page on the desk<\/span>
\nis blank, the pen<\/span>
\na burden to the hand \u2013<\/span>
\nshe lifts it<\/span>
\ndraws in breath<\/span>
\n\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026..<\/span>will again<\/span>
\nuntil the final line<\/span>
