Back on May 9<\/a>, I channeled my inner Pride and Prejudice<\/em> and opined that:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a truth universally acknowledged — that the more point-of-view characters and settings a book contains, the bigger, and longer, it will be.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Open for some serious writing business…<\/p><\/div>\n

As a child, The Wind in the Willows<\/em> by Kenneth Grahame was a favourite read — and one of the more famous quotes from the book is Ratty\u2019s view that:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 there is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as messing round in boats.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Messing around in boats is a lot of fun, but I would paraphrase Ratty\u2019s wisdom by saying that for a writer there is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as being at your writing desk when the words are flowing and the path of story lies clear.<\/p>\n

And although Zen wisdom warns against seeking to hold onto the moment, I cannot help hoping that the current following wind continues to favour me and the work-in-progress as long as may be required.<\/p>\n

After which I too may emulate Ratty and spend some time messing round in boats. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

On another note, though, how cool is it that over 200 years and 100 years respectively since Pride and Prejudice<\/em> and The Wind in the Willows<\/em> were first published, I can still adapt quotes to my 21st<\/sup> century experience? Very cool, I reckon!<\/p>\n
