The About The Characters<\/strong><\/a> post series focuses on the minor characters in The Wall Of Night<\/strong><\/a> series, in large part because:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s the presence of the smaller characters that \u201cmakes\u201d a story, creating texture around the main points of view.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Initially, the series focused exclusively on characters from The Heir of Night<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, but now I\u2019m continuing on with minor characters from both The Gathering Of The Lost<\/strong><\/em><\/a> and Daughter of Blood<\/strong><\/em><\/a> \u2014 in alphabetical order, by name, of course!<\/p>\n

Well, we\u2019ve been traversing the \u201cgreat plains of M\u201d for some time, but the landscape has finally changed and we\u2019re now into the \u201cfoothills of N.\u201d \ud83d\ude00 Enjoy!<\/p>\n

Shaking off both memory and speculation, Kalan joined Rhanar, who was captaining the current watch with a wagoner called Nai as his second. She was one of those with guard training who had been invalided out, in her case with a withered leg, a legacy of the plague years before Kalan was born. He suspected Rhanar had selected her as much for a similarly taciturn disposition as competence, since neither had much to say, beyond Rhanar\u2019s observation that the six wyr hounds were maintaining their perimeter patrol. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Nai pursed her lips. \u201cThey\u2019re different,\u201d she said. She bit off the second word as if she had already said too much, but Kalan guessed she was referring to the hounds\u2019 reputation for instability.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
