Friday was NZ National Poetry Day, so what better time to feature a poem! Fey<\/em> is one I’m rather fond of, especially those hurdy-gurdy trees. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

Fey<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

your door<\/span>
\nstands open still<\/span>
\nat dusk, your light<\/span>
\na moth’s antenna<\/span>
\nacross<\/span>
\nshadowed lawn<\/span><\/p>\n

bare feet rustle<\/span>
\nin last year’s<\/span>
\nleaf drift, a wind<\/span>
\nsways<\/span>
\nthrough naked trees<\/span><\/p>\n

you say<\/span>
\nyou will hang<\/span>
\na cricket cage<\/span>
\nabove your lintel,<\/span>
\nburn apple wood<\/span>
\nin the grate \u2013<\/span>
\ndance, the circle<\/span>
\nof your skirt<\/span>
\nreflecting<\/span>
\nthe moon’s dark face<\/span><\/p>\n

I ride<\/span>
\na rocking horse<\/span>
\nwith patchwork eyes,<\/span>
\nsteal<\/span>
\nthrough your door<\/span>
\nto the cold-stone hearth \u2013<\/span>
\ndream<\/span>
\nof dervish footsteps<\/span>
\nhurdy-gurdy trees<\/span><\/p>\n
