{"id":4145,"date":"2011-03-10T06:30:46","date_gmt":"2011-03-09T17:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/?p=4145"},"modified":"2011-03-09T21:11:35","modified_gmt":"2011-03-09T08:11:35","slug":"not-about-earthquakes-or-their-aftermaths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/03\/10\/not-about-earthquakes-or-their-aftermaths\/","title":{"rendered":"Not About Earthquakes Or Their Aftermaths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but I definitely feel ready for a change of pace, at least for one day &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>So on that note, what&#8217;s some of the good writing stuff that&#8217;s going down?<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, I revised 27 pages of <em>The Gathering of the Lost <\/em>(The Wall of Night, Book Two) today&#8212;which may not sound like much, but it&#8217;s a considerable advance on the 8 or so pages I managed on Monday, day-the-first of &#8220;getting back into it.&#8221; So now my goal for tomorrow is to equal or better that target &#8230; (watch this space.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, I am very pleased to have had two poems, <em><strong>Starman<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Penelope Dreaming<\/strong><\/em>, from my <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ithaca Conversations<\/span> sequence, accepted by editor <a href=\"http:\/\/markpirie.com\/\"><strong>Mark Pirie<\/strong><\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/broadsheetnz.wordpress.com\/\"><strong>Broadsheet 7<\/strong><\/a>. I understand <strong>Broadsheet 7<\/strong> will be coming out sometime in May. Mark is also the Managing Editor of <a href=\"http:\/\/headworx.eyesis.co.nz\/\">Headworx Publishers<\/a> and co-edited <em><strong>Voyagers Science Fiction Poetry from New Zealand<\/strong><\/em> (Interactive Press 2009) with <a href=\"http:\/\/timjonesbooks.blogspot.com\/\"><strong>Tim Jones<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bookman Beattie<\/strong> ran a nice feature on <em><strong>Broadsheet <\/strong><\/em>on his <a href=\"http:\/\/beattiesbookblog.blogspot.com\/\"><strong>Beatties Bookblog<\/strong><\/a> on Monday 21&#8212;you can check it out <a href=\"http:\/\/beattiesbookblog.blogspot.com\/2011\/02\/new-website-for-broadsheet-new-new.html\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3609\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3609\" href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/02\/12\/international-literary-quarterly-issue-14-published\/interlitq14v2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3609\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3609 \" title=\"Interlitq14v2\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Interlitq14v2-233x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Interlitq14v2-233x300.jpg 233w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Interlitq14v2-116x150.jpg 116w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Interlitq14v2.jpg 319w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 140px) 100vw, 140px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3609\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Interlitq 14<\/p><\/div>\n<p>You may recall that I also had another poem from the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ithaca Conversations<\/span> sequence, titled <a href=\"http:\/\/interlitq.org\/issue14\/helen-lowe\/job.php\"><em><strong>One Day<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, published in <a href=\"http:\/\/interlitq.org\/index.php\"><strong>Interlitq 14<\/strong><\/a> recently, together with <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/interlitq.org\/issue14\/helen-lowe\/job.php#australia\">Australia Post<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8212;<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>OK, what&#8217;s next? That&#8217;s fairly easy because finally it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzbookmonth.co.nz\/\">NZ Book Month<\/a> (they skipped last year to shift the annual date from September\/October to March.) As part of the nationwide celebrations I&#8217;ll be in Otago\/Southland from March 21-26, as a guest of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dandavin.org.nz\/aboutliteraryfoundation.htm\">Dan Davin Literary Foundation<\/a>, giving a series of workshops for high school kids as well as a public lecture in Invercargill. I&#8217;m really looking forward to it and have already done a bit of work on the workshop content&#8212;all those good ideas percolating away &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least, I&#8217;ve received&#8212;and accepted!&#8212;an invitation to attend <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/context.sf.org.nz\/wiki\/index.php\/Main_Page\">Context<\/a><\/strong>, this year&#8217;s <strong>NZ National Science Fiction Fantasy Convention<\/strong>, to be held in Auckland over Queen&#8217;s Birthday. I was very disappointed not to be able to attend <strong>Au Contraire <\/strong>last year due to a longstanding family event, so I am definitely pleased to be going to <strong>Context<\/strong>, especially with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catherineasaro.net\/\"><strong>Catherine Asaro<\/strong><\/a> as the <strong>International Guest of Honour<\/strong>.
