And in Monday&#8217;s post on <em>The Axeman&#8217;s Carnival<\/em>, I mentioned that I loved the rhythm of the author&#8217;s prose and also the use of techniques such as repetition.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-41509\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/The_Axemans_Carnival_Cover-197x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/The_Axemans_Carnival_Cover-197x300.jpg 197w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/The_Axemans_Carnival_Cover-99x150.jpg 99w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/The_Axemans_Carnival_Cover-768x1168.jpg 768w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/The_Axemans_Carnival_Cover-673x1024.jpg 673w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/The_Axemans_Carnival_Cover.jpg 789w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An early example of rhythm that caught my eye was this:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">&#8220;Then, high above, a cawing and a screeching, and wide black wings that flashed with white, and rust eyes that fixed on Marnie, and <em>Get out of here, get out get out get out, I&#8217;ll pierce your eyes and drink your blood and clean your bones. <\/em>Down he swooped like a gale, like a god: my father.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A little later, I was struck by the evocative quality of this passage:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">&#8220;&#8230;But below the trees, down at the foot of the hill, I could see the yolk-yellow house, and hear the scree, scree, scree of the clothesline as it turned in the wind, all the dresses and shirts alive.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fear not, though &#8212; the gorgeous words continue all the way to the end. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I always consider writing style when reading and posting on books.
