Tis a little belated, but here’s The Curve of the World <\/em>for you today, to celebrate poetry and human creativity:<\/p>\n

The Curve of the World<\/span><\/h3>\n

Summer breathes<\/span>
\nthrough marram grass, salt-tough<\/span>
\nwhere the southerly whips in<\/span>
\noff the Pacific, light &<\/span>
\nshadow all the way out<\/span>
\nto the distant smudge<\/span>
\nof albatross feeding\u2014at night<\/span>
\nyou see lights dance,<\/span>
\nsquid boats fishing<\/span>
\nthe same spot.<\/span>
\nThe larger ships, too,<\/span>
\nfollow the albatross road,<\/span>
\ntall towers disappearing<\/span>
\nbeneath the curve<\/span>
\nof the world \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

The wind sweeps in, recounts<\/span>
\ntales of ships, albatross,<\/span>
\nmen with eyes bleached<\/span>
\nto seams \u2026 tells<\/span>
\nit all to the salt grass<\/span>
\nand driftwood piled<\/span>
\ninto a beach fire\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

smoke wavers upward<\/span>
\nin a thin stream, dissipates<\/span>
\ninto the gulf<\/span>
\nof sky.<\/span><\/p>\n
