When I embarked upon this year’s “Great Leaders in Speculative Fiction” series on Supernatural Underground<\/a>, I knew that one of the leaders I featured had<\/em> to be Coltaine, from Deadhouse Gates<\/em><\/strong> by Steven Erikson.<\/p>\n

Now, finally, I have penned that post, with all the many reasons I heart Coltaine included therein. But not only<\/em> that — you can also enjoy the wonderful depiction of Coltaine by artist Jason Dement<\/a>, which he has very kindly allowed me to feature in the post:<\/p>\n

You may wonder why, since I consider Coltaine a “must-include”, it has taken me until now to feature him. The reason is simple enough, chiefly that it’s been a while since I read the book, so I wanted to reread it and ‘visit’ a little with Coltaine first — but the Malazan books are very big, and I very busy with the you-know-what, so the reread has taken a while.<\/p>\n

I enjoyed it, though, and appreciated Coltaine just as much as ever, so I hope you will find some of that enjoyment, and enthusiasm, reflected in the Supernatural Underground post<\/a>. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
