The power they exerted over my imagination is best evidenced by the way they continue to infiltrate my poetry and short fiction\u2014and that the novels I write are centred around epic, legend and myth, both in what is loosely our world (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thornspell.info\/\"><strong>Thornspell<\/strong>)<\/a> <\/em>and alternate worlds (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.helenlowe.info\/wallofnight.html\"><strong><em>The Wall of Night Series<\/em>.<\/strong><\/a>)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_43533\" style=\"width: 178px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43533\" class=\"size-full wp-image-43533\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Oddysseus-Argos-in-The-Return-film.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"168\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Oddysseus-Argos-in-The-Return-film.jpg 168w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Oddysseus-Argos-in-The-Return-film-84x150.jpg 84w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 168px) 100vw, 168px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-43533\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Odysseus and Argos in &#8220;The Return&#8221; film<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Argos (for those who may not know) was the favourite hound of Odysseus (also known as Ulysses among the Romans), King of Ithaca, who was absent from home for twenty years because of the Trojan war.\u00a0 When Odysseus finally returned home, disguised as a beggar, the old hound still knew him, even after so long \u2013 but died on the night of his return. As a child I always found the story particularly moving, so was not surprised when the voice of Argos emerged through the Ithaca Conversations sequence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Argos ..
