Another reason I like it so much, aside from my brief commentary yesterday, is that it &#8220;captures&#8221; what my historical reading has told me about the Renaissance princes: the immense wealth, the passionate interest in the arts&#8212;as well as the subtext of worldly advancement&#8212;juxtaposed with overweening pride (&#8220;I chuse never to stoop&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Mapping-the-Distance.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-515\" title=\"Mapping the Distance\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Mapping-the-Distance-196x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Mapping-the-Distance-196x300.jpg 196w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Mapping-the-Distance.jpg 236w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 196px) 100vw, 196px\" \/><\/a>This week I am carrying on with my poetry month interviews and will be\u00a0 talking with <strong>Ingrid Horrocks<\/strong> about her first collection, <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.victoria.ac.nz\/vup\/2010titleinformation\/mapdistance.aspx\">Mapping the Distance<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(VUP). I have enjoyed reading the collection, which traverses family connections, both to the past and new generations,\u00a0 as well as experiences of place and the connections between place and people, and am looking forward to the interview.<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s what the NZ Listener review had to say: <em>\u2018Horrocks writes beautifully and simply. She is not only a keen observer, but also that most fortunate of travellers \u2013 someone that things happen to.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Most importantly though, I have dived into writing Part 3 of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/helenlowe.info\/wallofnight.html\"><em>The Gathering of the Lost <\/em>(The Wall of Night, Book Two)<\/a><\/strong>, although I must also put some time toward writing my next post for the <a href=\"http:\/\/outofthiseos.typepad.com\/\"><strong>Out of this Eos<\/strong><\/a> blog&#8212;I am thinking that this one will be on &#8220;reading for the Hugos&#8221; since I am eligible to vote this year.
