Being part of the international <a href=\"http:\/\/tuesdaypoem.blogspot.com\/\">Tuesday Poem Blog<\/a>, I always have my <a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/05\/24\/tuesday-poem-the-ballad-of-sir-bors-by-john-masefield\/\">Tuesday Poem<\/a>, but on <a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/05\/23\/what-im-reading-broadsheet-7\/\">Monday<\/a> I was reading <em><strong>broadsheet 7: new new zealand poetry<\/strong><\/em>, while on <a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/05\/26\/nancy-mattson-lisis-letters-from-karelia-cardinal-points-literary-journal\/\">Thursday<\/a> I featured poet <strong>Nancy Mattson<\/strong>, who has just had four poems published in <em><strong>Cardinal Points Literary Journal<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps not surprisingly under the circumstances, I also have two new poetry collections on my &#8220;Just Arrived&#8221; table. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-5771\" href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/05\/29\/just-arrived-two-poetry-collections-a-novel\/thecorrosionzone\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5771\" title=\"TheCorrosionZone\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/TheCorrosionZone-210x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"126\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>The first, which is genuinely new out, is <strong>Barbara Strang&#8217;s<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-5772\" href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/05\/29\/just-arrived-two-poetry-collections-a-novel\/my-iron-spine\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5772\" title=\"my-iron-spine\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/my-iron-spine.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/my-iron-spine.jpg 200w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/my-iron-spine-101x150.jpg 101w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 120px) 100vw, 120px\" \/><\/a>The second, <em><strong>My Iron Spine<\/strong><\/em>, (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.headworx.eyesis.co.nz\/poetry\/ironspine.php\">Headworx 2008<\/a>) is the second collection of poetry from my fellow Tuesday poet, <a href=\"http:\/\/wingedink.blogspot.com\/\"><strong>Helen Rickerby<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 As those of you who follow <strong><em>&#8220;&#8230; Anything, Really&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>&#8212;and the poetry side in particular&#8212;will know, I am a great admirer of Helen&#8217;s poetry so somewhat embarrassed that it has taken me this long to get a copy onto the <a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/category\/justarrived\/\">&#8220;Just Arrived&#8221;<\/a> table.<\/p>\n<p>But far better late than never and I am very much looking forward to reading both collections and sharing at least one favourite from each as a future Tuesday Poem selection&#8212;with the agreement of the poet, of course!<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-5785\" href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/05\/29\/just-arrived-two-poetry-collections-a-novel\/blackout\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5785\" title=\"Blackout\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blackout-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"143\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blackout-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blackout-99x150.jpg 99w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blackout-682x1024.jpg 682w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blackout.jpg 903w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 143px) 100vw, 143px\" \/><\/a>And as those of you who follow <strong><em>&#8220;&#8230; Anything, Really&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>&#8212;and the SFF side in particular \ud83d\ude09 &#8212;<em>may<\/em> have picked up, as a non-attending member of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.renovationsf.org\/index.php\"><strong>Renovation<\/strong><\/a> (the World Science Fiction Convention 2011) I am also planning on reading and blogging on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.renovationsf.org\/hugo-packet.php\">Hugo Award nominees<\/a> again this year. (You may recall that last year I posted a series on the <a href=\"http:\/\/outofthiseos.typepad.com\/\">HarperVoyager US blog<\/a>, starting with <a href=\"http:\/\/outofthiseos.typepad.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/the-hugo-awards-the-reading-has-begun.html\">The Hugo Awards: the Reading Has Begun.<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/05\/16\/just-arrived-nk-jemisins-the-hundred-thousand-kingdoms-mira-grants-feed\/\">May 16<\/a> I was lucky enough to have NK Jemisin\u2019s <em><strong>The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms <\/strong><\/em>and Mira Grant\u2019s <em><strong>Feed<\/strong><\/em> , both of which are Hugo Award 2011 finalists for Best Novel, arrive on my To Be Read (TBR) table&#8212;and today it was Connie Willis&#8217;s <em><strong>Blackout<\/strong><\/em>, also a Best Novel finalist.<\/p>\n<p>I will give you a little advance warning of when the Hugo post series will begin&#8212;likely in early July&#8212;but I will also post reports on each of the novels here as I complete them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week has been a little bit of a poetry week.
