While this means that I have to stop working on <em>Daughter of Blood<\/em> (The Wall of Night Book Three) and my Rue short story from the <em>Thornspell<\/em> &#8216;verse until the proof done, overall I think this is Good News.<\/p>\n<p>That is because First Pass Proof means that the book is in production and rolling fairly inexorably toward publication&#8212;which as you may recall is 27 March&#8212;and that is something that makes me really happy; even happier given how many of you have been kind enough to let me know that you loved <em>The Heir of Night<\/em> and are waiting impatiently for <em>Gathering<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>So what else is happening?<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Reading Oracle&#8217;s Fire and Forthcoming Interview with Mary Victoria<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-8779\" href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/10\/03\/new-books\/oraclecover-184x300-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-8779\" title=\"OracleCover-184x300\" src=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/OracleCover-184x300-92x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"92\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/OracleCover-184x300-92x150.jpg 92w, https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/OracleCover-184x300.jpg 184w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 92px) 100vw, 92px\" \/><\/a>You may recall that I spoke some good words for my friend <a href=\"http:\/\/maryvictoria.net\/\"><strong>Mary Victoria<\/strong><\/a> at the launch of her third-in-series, <em><strong>Oracle&#8217;s Fire<\/strong><\/em>, two weeks back, <a href=\"https:\/\/helenlowe.info\/blog\/2011\/10\/24\/launching-oracles-fire-harper-voyager-by-mary-victoria\/\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>. Since then I have been steadily reading the book (but no spoilers!) and getting ready to interview Mary on the blog&#8212;if not this week then I hope next. The official launch of <em>The Corrosion Zone<\/em> was&#8212;like many events&#8212;put off by Christchurch&#8217;s February 22nd and then June 13 earthquakes. So I am delighted that the collection <em>is<\/em> now being launched as part of the Canterbury Poets&#8217; Collective (CPC) Spring Reading Season (also deferred from its usual autumn slot because of earthquakes.) And honored to be asked by Barbara to give the official launch speech.<\/p>\n<p>So <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">when and where<\/span>: this coming <strong>Wednesday, 9 November, starting 5.30 pm<\/strong> at the <strong>Christchurch Polytechnic Students&#8217; Association<\/strong> venue at <strong>5 Madras Street<\/strong>, on the Christchurch Polytechnic campus.<\/p>\n<p>The launch will be followed by the CPC event with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookcouncil.org.nz\/writers\/manhireb.html\">Bill Manhire<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aotnz.co.nz\/aotnz_about.html\">Steve Thomas<\/a>, <\/strong>and <strong>Dina Durrer<\/strong> (with $5 entry for this event; Barbara&#8217;s book launch is free.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>SF Signal: Mind Meld<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m also very pleased to have been asked to participate in an <a href=\"http:\/\/sfsignal.com\/\"><strong>SF Signal<\/strong><\/a> Mind Meld on the subject of the advantages of character, as opposed to technology\/sense of wonder driven stories in SciFi.<\/p>\n<p>This should be running this week and obviously I&#8217;ll let you know when it&#8217;s up, but in the meantime, you can check out a few of October&#8217;s Mind Melds:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsignal.com\/archives\/2011\/10\/mind-meld-books-that-authors-recommend-to-their-friends\/\">Books That Authors Recommend to Their Friends<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsignal.com\/archives\/2011\/10\/mind-meld-the-most-interesting-societies-in-sff\/\">The Most Interesting Societies in SF\/F<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsignal.com\/archives\/2011\/10\/mind-meld-mainstream-authors-who-should-be-writing-genre-novels\/\">Mainstream Authors Who Should Be Writing Genre Novels<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fun, huh?
