About The Characters: Meet The Minor Players In “The Wall Of Night” Series — Meet Nalin
The About The Characters post series focuses on the minor characters in The Wall Of Night series, in large part because:
“I think it’s the presence of the smaller characters that “makes” a story, creating texture around the main points of view.”
~ from my Legend Award Finalist’s Interview, 2013
Initially, the series focused exclusively on characters from The Heir of Night, but now I’m continuing on with minor characters from both The Gathering Of The Lost and Daughter of Blood — in alphabetical order, by name, of course!
We’re now well into what I like to call the “foothills of N” – and the next few posts will all feature characters from Daughter of Blood alone.

Nalin: a sergeant in the Earl of Blood’s Honor Guard
…at that moment the wyr pack fell silent. “Eerie,” Nalin said, matter of fact, after they had both listened to the ensuing quiet. The pack had cried for a night through until the next day’s dusk, Kalan realized, exactly the length of time prescribed for the rites of Hurulth. He wondered whether he dared put that down to coincidence. “Fireside tales,” the sergeant muttered, as if she were holding a similar, internal conversation, then took her leave.
